POWER OF ATTORNEY - General Power of Attorney - A General Power of Attorney is a legal document that grants an agent broad authority to act on the principal's behalf in a wide range of matters, including financial and business affairs, but typically not healthcare decisions.

Scope of Authority:
The agent can perform most legal acts the principal could perform, including signing documents, buying property, making investments, and managing assets.

Non-Durable:
Unless specifically stated as durable, a General Power of Attorney typically terminates if the principal becomes incapacitated or dies.

Revocable:
The principal can revoke the General Power of Attorney at any time, as long as they are deemed mentally competent.

Common Uses:
People use General Power of Attorneys for temporary absences, travel, or when they need someone to handle their affairs while they are temporarily unable to do so themselves.

Not for Healthcare:
While a General Power of Attorney can handle financial matters, it doesn't typically grant authority to make healthcare decisions, for which a separate healthcare power of attorney or advance directive is needed.
